dearest mutuals & followers, i’ve promised to go on a slovenia-italy-france roadtrip this august, & i’d v much welcome your tips & advice!! we’ll def be stopping in venice, florence, ravenna, cannes, marseille, and aix-en-provence (i’m not sure about the exact order so please bear with me) with regular beach stops - everything else is being discussed atm, so if you can think of anything,, inbox or messages are open!!
The ideal itinerary in Italy would be Venice-Ravenna-Florence and then the Mediterranean coast…
About Venice, I suggest to book a B&B in Mestre, in the immediate inland: it’s much cheaper and public transportation is efficient. I strongly recommend a trip with a “vaporetto” (water taxi) to the isles in the laguna. But be careful with tourist traps (v expensive restaurants, gondolas etc.)!
After Florence, you could travel to the Mediterranean coast - maybe pass through Pisa or Lucca (I would spend max 1 day in each, there’s not much to see) - and then Liguria. I think you might enjoy Lerici, where Percy Shelley died (a bit morbid?). Cinque Terre is almost compulsory, and you can see all of it with a 4€ train ticket called Cinque Terre Express (!). Genova is famous for its acquarium, but if you want to go you need to book it months in advance. Other notable cities are Portofino and San Remo.
General advice: try local food, as often as possible and abundantly. I mean gelato, pasta w/ pesto, cecina, focaccia, fritto misto (different types of fish, fried), lampredotto if you’re daring (it’s basically cow stomach boiled w/ tomato). Also, if you don’t drink chinotto we can’t be friends.
Message me if you need smt else and good luck for planning!
